Saturday, October 10- Eighteen high school youth and 7 adults helped to serve lunch to the elderly residents of the Mary Walker Towers downtown. What a great day this was!We had planned to serve lunch in the dining hall to the residents with them seated at tables decorated for the fall season. But plans quickly changed when we got there at noon. The dining hall was being renovated. There were no tables, no chairs... and no residents. So, Plan B went into effect (we didn't know we had a Plan B). We set up a serving station by the elevators, prepared the plate lunches, and carried them to each apartment individually. One building had 8 floors, the other building had 6. This actually turned out better. We were able to serve about 80 to 90 residents at their front door. We were also able to visit better with them this way. Many residents expressed their appreciation by word, smiles, or hugs. Much thanks to the Service Station Sunday School Class and parents who helped cook pot roast for the lunches!!
