March 2009- Backpacks for the Homeless

Twelve high school youth volunteered their time Saturday, March 28th to help shop for items to place in backpacks for our homeless brothers and sisters. We spent about 1 1/2 hours thrift-shopping. We stopped to eat lunch, then went back to the church to assemble the backpacks. We assembled fourteen backpacks! Our goal was 10. Items that went into the packs:Tarp, bottled water, Toothbrush, Tube Toothpaste, Bar of Soap, 2 Cans Tuna, Can Mandarin Orange Slices for Vitamin C, 2 Cans sardines, 1 Can Castleberry Beef Stew, Heavy Sweat Shirt, Heavy pair Sweat Pants, Knit Cap, 1 Pair Gloves, Can Opener, Bible.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this project- either by donating money, backpacks, or the items to go in them! Thanks also to all the youth who showed up to help! The backpacks will be distributed to folks on the street over the next few weeks. Yes, God can even show up through a backpack.
